Dear visitor of this blog,

due to a change in the role I assume in the project Man on the River, I will no longer be able to make a frequent update of Riversidestories. Instead of traveling “alongside” the river and staying at different peoples places by doing CouchSurfing, I am now assuming the following tasks:

-steering the support boat Serena
-filming for the documentarist Paolo Muran at his absence
-taking pictures for Man on the River (http://www.flickr.com/photos/riversidestories/)
-assisting EDEN EXIT in PR work for Man on the River

This takes a lot of time and makes a frequent update of this Riversidestories impossible. Still, I will try to supply this blog with new articles as much as possible. You will find them below this notification.

Thanks for your understanding ✿ :-)

Museumsschiff (Nautical Museum) in Vienna!

Finally the Video about Franz Scheriau and his Nautical Museum in Vienna is ready! I also did a rough website for him please feel free to have a look at it. Giacomo has adjusted his arrival to Vienna for a view months, so he plans to arrive in February. The idea is to open a Fair-Trade coffeeshop under management of Giacomo on this ship, Franz is very happy to have someone to help him on his project! What about you, maybe you have some ideas to keep the project Museumsschiff and the nautical heritage alive? Everybody is welcome on board!

Gabčíkovo – Dams and Lock

Gabčíkovo is not only the name of a township in Slovakia, but also a hydroelectic power station at the Danube. Its construction started in 1977 in corporation between former Czechoslovakia and Hungary, but 1989 the latter stopped its works because of major public renunciation of the project. Today, Gabčíkovo Dam/Waterworks is the  biggest hydroelectric power station in Slovakia and produces 11% of the national current demand.
For Man on the River, Gabčíkovo means a milestone on the journey towards Istanbul : It´s considered one of the most dangerous parts on the Danube, as in case of bad weather conditions, waves of up to 2 metres can be formed in its basin. On the 26th and 27th of September, the team of Man on the River passed Gabčíkovo without major incidents and continue their journey towards Istanbul.
